Usually, the goal of demand-side management is to enable the end user to use less energy throughout peak hours, or to shift the time of power use to off-peak times such as nighttime and weekends. Peak demand management does not necessarily improve total energy usage, but could be anticipated to reduce the need for network and/or power plant investment to meet peak demands.
